DAY 1

As the dust settles down after Day 1 of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, its time for some post match comments. The first match between South Africa and Mexico was a relatively exciting game to watch. Both teams could pass the ball around very well and Mexico seemed really comfortable with the ball at their feet. The match ended 1-1 and I believe it was a fair result since both teams had good opportunities to score. My man of the match had to be Giovani Dos Santos, the 21 year old Mexican player. He was really skillful and we saw glimpses of brilliance from him. Its a wonder how he can't get a starting place for his club Tottenham.

Tshabalala hitting the ball into the top corner. Superb finish to give South Africa a dream start to the World Cup.

Their joy was short-lived though as Rafael Marquez scored a much deserved equaliser for the Mexicans.

The second match in group A was between France and Uruguay. The 2006 finalist started brightly when Frank Ribery ( who had a poor game overall) crossed in low only for Govou to miss from less then 6 yards. The match was a dull one and the only one who had a good game was Diego Forlan. The Athelico Madrid striker had a couple of shots on goal but neither side created any clear cut chances to win the game. This game saw the first Red card being brandished to a young Uruguayan player (who only just came on as a second half substitute),Nicolas Lodeiro. Final verdict on the match : BORING~!
Man of the Match : Diego Forlan.
Biggest Disappointment : Frank Ribery- he couldn't seem to dribble pass anyone. He didn't seem fit at all.
