There and Back Again

MARCH 1, 2010

We were forced back to KTT once again, this time to study 3 Languages in 3 MONTHS~! (Yes I know...ITS CRAZY~!) I doubt that many people were actually looking forward to going back to the place where we had already spent 1.5 years of our lives.

On the morning of that 'fine' day, I was actually the 3rd or 4th person to reach KTT. I guess I have probably picked up a thing or two from the people in college. (Lesson Learnt during the 1st month in KTT : Sometimes, you have to be extra kiasu in a highly competitive environment)

After the 1st day which was filled with briefings and other unimportant stuff, lessons resumed the VERY NEXT DAY!

The timetable was actually very packed. Perhaps some would say worse then A Level. My battle with the 3 languages started on the very 1st day. The 1st lecturer that entered our class was MITON(Kannada Lecturer). I actually vividly remember seeing him in the cafeteria on the 1st day with his blue shirt and wearing black slacks which we wore really high up. (till his belly button) At the first glance, he looked really harmless, nice and gentle.(ok..so now back to my 1st ever class)

So Miton introduced himself im a really heavily accented way and we were soon asked to introduce ourselves too .Standard procedure everytime a new lecturer enters class. Miton started teaching and almost everyone had trouble understanding what he said. Communication was bad as he's English sucked as well. I guess that set the tone for the whole KI programme. We learnt writing and reading starting with the vowels and consonants. It was quite fun once you were able to read slowly but then it got boring after some time. The other Indian lecturers were very much better. They could easily converse in English and were really friendly. One lecturer even played futsal with us.

Some of Miton's quotes which I'm not going to forget in a very long time

"Sit PRAPARLY" ..(sit properly, when a student slouches or shows that he/she is disinterested in learning?)

"Very well writing practice all of you!" (goodness gracious me! this very sentence irritated the crap out of most students because he would repeat it in every class)

"REPEAT!"

"PLEASE..WRITING PRACTICE AAL of YOU" ( when people don't listen to his 1st command)

"very well discuss Aal of you" ( when he gives us a few sentences and then he expects us to repeat it in class over a million times)

Actually, come to think of it, his teaching method may be extremely boring but its actually very effective. I remember most of the words and sentences that he taught. lol..

I guess I'll just show you some pictures of the work that we've been doing for the past 2 months...

The amount of writing exercise we had to do.

Brings back memories of Tadika

The Kannada Alphabest (aka AKSHARA MALE)

Hindi Alphabets.

Writing the countless number of hindi sentences without actually knowing the meaning of each sentence. Hindi's definitely my weakest subject.

And lastly!!TAMIL~!!!
NOTICE THE TORN EDGES ON THAT PIECE OF PAPER.HAHA~! IT SHOWS HOW MUCH I HAD TO REFER TO THAT VERY PIECE OF PAPER. TAMIL~!!!

Well, Thats basically why I'm stuck in KTT again. Can't wait for the 27th of May when KI finally ends.
p/s : I believe Kannada is my favourite and also my strongest subject. Hopefully all these stuff will actually be useful when we get to India.

till then,

Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Medical College (JSS MC) Mysore

It was 6.03pm, 19th of April 2010. JPA was due to come to our college on the very next day to tell us our university placement in India. Oh, and I remember the time because I remember checking my phone for Christine's misscall to go for jogging.
I was putting on my socks when alll of a sudden, Joel came bursting through our front door screaming that he got SDM ,Dharwad. He said that the list was with Miss Syaza and that we could check our names in the staffroom. Totally Unexpected~! (actually by this time, the placements for KLE,KMC , KIMS and Bapuji had come out already...so half the students already knew their placements)

So I ran downstairs and saw many people crowding around the staircase leading to the staffroom. I met Christine down there too and told her that the placement was out. (by that time, she already knew that she got MCODS) I was actually hesitating if I should go up since I was only wearing shorts at that time.

Asida suddenly popped out of the blue and told me that I got JSS Mysore.
*numb feeling*
I then asked her who else got the same place. It seems that I was the only Indian guy and there were only 8 students being sent there.Mei Yee,Loga,Wan ,Shafie, Cheng, Asida,Aisyah and me.
It took me 10 seconds for the information to sink in. *Yesss~! I got Mysore~!!*
*High 5 with Christine*
and then Shalini called to congratulate me. I don't know how but she seemed to have this 6th sense that I would be getting Mysore.AND she was correct~!
I was really grateful as I had been praying for either JSS or KLE. THANK YOU LORD~! :)

Why Mysore? Well..from what I read online and what the seniors and the Indian lecturers said...Mysore was one of the most beautiful cities in Southern India. PLUS it is only about 2-2.5hours to Bangalore. I was HAPPY. I'll blog about Mysore another time(based on my research on the net)

I quickly ran upstairs and stopped by to tell Cheng. HAHA~! I remember him dancing around too. Then I called my dad to tell him about the place. I think he was really relieved that I was not sent to Salem.

I continued my jogging after that and everyone seemed really excited about their placement. Next STEP for all of us was to GOOGLE everything about the place and ask the seniors there about the University, accommodation etc ..

So that was how I came to know that I was heading to Mysore. The LOOOONG and anxious wait was over.
